Pawlock & Fetchson Sniff Out: Cannon Camping & Caravan Park, Pevensey Bay

Greetings from the travelling tails of Pawlock & Fetchson! We’re two canine explorers on a mission to sniff out the most dog-friendly places in the UK – and this week we parked our humans (and our motorhome) at Cannon Camping & Caravan Park in Pevensey Bay, East Sussex.

This small, peaceful site is ideal for motorhome travellers with dogs. It’s just a short walk from Pevensey Bay beach and within easy reach of pubs, cafés and historic sights – all paw-friendly and walkable. No car needed, just sturdy leads and eager paws.

Staying at Cannon Camping & Caravan Park

Cannon Camping is a simple but welcoming motorhome campsite near Pevensey Bay. With grassy pitches, basic facilities and a quiet setting, it makes the perfect base for exploring on foot.

Best of all, it’s in sniffing distance of the sea! We could smell the salty air from our pitch, which sent our tails wagging before we’d even left the van. The location couldn’t be better for dogs and humans alike – with coast, countryside and history all on the doorstep.

Dog Friendly Things to Do in Pevensey Bay

Day One: Walkies to Pevensey Bay & Dinner at The Castle Inn

Our first adventure was down to Pevensey Bay beach, which is dog-friendly all year round. Pebbles, seaweed and plenty of space for zoomies – it’s a pawfect seaside walk.

After sniffing every rock (Fetchson insists they all smell different), we padded to The Castle Inn. This dog-friendly pub welcomed us with water bowls and fuss, while the humans enjoyed hearty meals. We tried our “starving puppy eyes” routine, but sadly the steak pies were off limits. Still, five paws up for hospitality!

Day Two: Coastal Walk to Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne Marina

Next, we set off along the coast path from Pevensey Bay to Sovereign Harbour and Eastbourne Marina. It’s around 2 miles each way – plenty of exercise for active dogs – with fresh sea air and sweeping views to keep our noses busy.

Our reward came in the form of Di Lieto’s Coffee Lounge, a dog-friendly café overlooking the boats. Humans tucked into a delicious lunch while we stretched out under the table, tails wagging as gulls swooped overhead.

Fun fact for humans: Sovereign Harbour is one of the largest marinas in northern Europe – and a great spot to find more dog-friendly places to eat and drink.

Day Three: Pevensey Castle & Cream Tea at Castle Cottage Tearoom

On our final day, we followed the pawpath to Pevensey Castle, one of England’s oldest fortresses. William the Conqueror landed here in 1066 – though we found no bones, just fascinating old walls to sniff.

Afterwards, we headed to Castle Cottage Tearoom for a well-earned cream tea. Humans enjoyed scones piled high with jam and cream, while we were treated to a quiet snooze in the shade. Pawlock did attempt a sneaky lick of clotted cream… but alas, humans are quicker than they look.

Why Cannon Camping is Perfect for Dog-Friendly Motorhome Trips

We loved Cannon Camping because:

  • Everything is walkable from the campsite – no car needed.
  • Dog friendly beaches just a few minutes away.
  • Pubs and cafés where dogs are not just allowed, but welcomed.
  • A mix of seaside walks, history, and tasty pit stops for humans.

It’s a peaceful and practical base, with all the essentials for motorhome stays plus plenty of dog-friendly adventure right outside the gate.

Next Time’s Pawsome Plans

We didn’t have time to try everything, so our tails are already wagging for next time. On the list:

  • Hopping on the bus into Eastbourne to explore dog-friendly places and the seafront.
  • Sniffing out more of Pevensey Bay’s hidden corners (and maybe persuading the humans to share fish and chips).
  • Discovering more cafés around Sovereign Harbour Marina.

Final Paw-Prints of Approval 🐾

For us, Cannon Camping & Caravan Park is a tail-wagging base for dog-friendly holidays by the sea. With beaches, pubs, castles and cafés all within walking distance, it’s a true gem for dogs and their humans travelling by motorhome.

So if you’re planning your next trip and searching for dog friendly campsites in East Sussex, put Cannon Camping on your list. We give it two wagging tails of approval – and we’ll definitely be back to sniff out more next time!
